On Wednesday, reports surfaced that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had located former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello at his Abuja residence in Wuse. However, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo arrived with a substantial police presence, preventing the EFCC from apprehending Bello.

According to Sahara Reporters, EFCC sources indicated that a violent confrontation was averted by their decision to retreat. They stated that they sought to avoid bloodshed.

An unnamed anti-graft commission source revealed that Bello had intentionally vacated his official residence in Lokoja to evade the EFCC, unaware that his aide’s phone was being tracked. “Yahaya Bello left his phone at the Government House in Kogi to avoid being tracked to Abuja,” the source said. “But the mobile phone of his aide which he used was already being tracked to where he’s now trapped in Abuja.”

Although the reason for the attempted arrest remains unknown, it is speculated to be related to fraud charges filed against Bello by the EFCC. The former governor is accused of financial impropriety amounting to N84 billion.

Reacting to the incident, former Senator Shehu Sani remarked, “The White Lion in the African Jungle,” referring to Bello’s nickname. CONTINUE READING
