FX and Hulu have officially announced an additional two seasons of Shōgun are in the works with series star and producer Hiroyuki Sanada on board alongside the series’ creative team.
In addition to co-creators Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo (who also serve as executive producers and writers), executive producer Michaela Clavell will be involved in the development process.
A production window has not been set, but a writers room is currently being assembled to begin work this summer.
The announcement comes after Deadline reported last week that Sanada had closed a deal to reprise his role as Lord Yoshii Toranaga for a potential second season.
Initially billed as a limited series, Shōgun is based on James Clavell’s classic novel of the same name. One of the most expensive scripted shows in FX’s history, it has become the network’s most-streamed series since debuting in late February.
