As the Christmas season grows near, are you thinking of switching to artificial Christmas trees with lights? I made the switch to an artificial Christmas tree many years ago and I can share the pros and the cons. This year I upgraded to the one of the best artificial trees and I happy to be able to share my review as well as the new features that I love. The King of Christmas provided me with a 7.5″ Douglas Fir Slim Artificial Christmas Tree with Lights in order to facilitate this review. Let me tell you all about it what you can expect if you make a purchase from King of Christmas.
Advantages Of Artificial Christmas Trees With Lights
First, I would like to lead off with why I think artificial Christmas trees can be a good choice. Sure, I love the smell of pine but, an artificial Christmas tree offers several advantages over a real tree:
- Cost-effective: Although the initial investment is higher, artificial trees can be reused for many years, saving money over time.
- Low maintenance: No need to water daily or clean up pine needles, making it much easier to maintain.
- Allergy-friendly: Ideal for people who are allergic to the pollen, mold, or sap from real trees.
- Variety of styles: Available in a wide range of shapes, colors, and sizes
- Durable: Artificial trees are designed to last for many years if stored properly, unlike real trees which last only for the holiday season.
- No mess: No sap, shedding needles, or drying out, so the space around the tree remains cleaner. No worrying about them scratching your car or being tied securely enough to the roof of the car.
- Fire-resistant: Most artificial trees are made from fire-resistant materials, reducing the risk of fire hazards.
- Environmentally friendly (in some cases): Reusing an artificial tree for 5-10 years can reduce the environmental impact compared to cutting down real trees annually, though this is a complex debate.
- Convenient setup and storage: King of Christmas artificial trees come in sections that are easy to assemble and disassemble, and they can be stored compactly.
- Lights: Options include pre-lit trees with built-in lights, making decorating easier. The lights are evenly strung and they go along each branch instead in lose circles around the tree.
So, as for the pros and cons of artificial trees, you can see there are a lot of pros! That is why I am a convert. The cons are that they don’t smell like pine but you can use essential oils for that! They also cost quite a bit, but over the years the price per year goes down to offer a savings for most people. The final con is you don’t have a living tree in your home but that is also a pro if you suffer from tree cutting down guilt like I do!
King Of Christmas Tree Review: 7.5′ Douglas Fir Artificial Christmas Tree
The exact tree I received was the 7.5 foot King Douglas Fir Slim Artificial Christmas Tree with 650 Warm White & Multi-Color LED Lights. I was attracted to this artificial tree in specific because I like the slim shape, dual color lights, and realistic foliage. After unpacking it and setting it up (What? There are only 77 days until Christmas!), I can tell you that it fully meets my expectations.
King of Christmas has a great “Tree Quiz” at the top of their website on the right hand side. The 5 question quiz ask helps you find your perfect King Of Christmas artificial Christmas tree, because to be honest, there are lots of choices and it is helpful narrowing it down by features that are important to you.
The tree arrives to your front door in a large box. When you open the box, you will find inside the 3 parts of the tree labeled A, B, and C, along with a flat tree stand, Christmas tree storage bag, fluffing gloves, set up guide, and lights remote (if applicable).
The assembly is very easy. You just unfold the tree stand so that it is in a cross shape and after inserting the bottom part of the tree into the base, you twist the screw tight to hold in place.
The photo above show two tree sections placed and no fluffing done.
As you place the two bottom sections of the tree, the limbs are on hinges that mostly fall open with gravity. The final section has shorter wired limbs that require a little pulling out into place. My daughter is the official “fluffer” at my house so after I assemble the tree, she comes by and fluffs out the tree limbs for a nice full look. Then hanging the Christmas bulbs and ornaments is a group project. Finally, we add the garland and the Christmas tree hat on top, as the tradition in my family.
How To Fluff An Artificial Christmas Tree
Fluffing an artificial Christmas tree is key to making it look full and natural. You can use gloves if you like but we don’t find the tree to be prickly so we don’t bother. Here’s how to do fluff the tree effectively once you have set up the tree:
1. Start from the Bottom And Work Upwards
- Begin with the bottom section of the tree if your tree comes in multiple parts.
- Working one branch at a time, start by gently pulling the smaller branches away from the main stem. Separate and spread out the branches in different directions.
- Fluff smaller tips at different angles to fill gaps and add volume.
2. Check for Gaps
- Step back occasionally to check for empty or uneven areas, and adjust as necessary by repositioning branches or fluffing them more.
Slim Christmas Trees
This tall, slim Artificial Douglas Fir Christmas Tree is a perfect blend of elegance and convenience, ideal for those looking to maximize space without sacrificing holiday charm. I always set my tree up against the wall and I thought a slim tree would feel less cramped. Its slim profile allows it to fit seamlessly into smaller rooms or tight spaces. It provides more room for foot traffic and is just as stunning though less full around the base. I love my slim artificial Christmas tree and think it looks especially good with my tall ceilings.
Realistic Christmas Trees
The lifelike Douglas Fir design brings the beauty of a real tree into your home. My mother was always good at knowing the choices and recognizing them for their various qualities such as shape and color. I remember she always seemed to be especially impressed by Douglas Fir trees and I guess I am too. However, they have something for every preference: Frasier Fir, Aspen Fir, Cypress Spruce, and more. I like the realistic Christmas trees because their needles are plastic molded in the image of the real tree. They not only look realistic as their name suggests, they also are very durable. They don’t shed, which means less cleaning and more long lasting.
Lighted Artificial Christmas Trees
Artificial trees with integrated lights are often referred to as pre-lit trees or lighted artificial trees. King of Christmas uses LED lights.
LED Christmas lights are considered the best for several reasons:
- Energy Efficiency: LED lights use significantly less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs. This can lead to lower electricity bills, especially if you’re using many lights for holiday decorations.
- Longevity: LED bulbs last much longer than incandescent bulbs, often up to 50,000 hours or more. This means they can be reused for many years without needing replacements.
- Durability: LED lights are more durable because they are made from sturdy components and are less likely to break if dropped or jostled during installation or storage. This one is so important because the whole point of an artificial tree with lights is to be able to use it year after year.
- Cooler Temperature: LED lights stay cooler than incandescent lights. This reduces the risk of fire or heat-related damage, especially when placed near flammable materials like a dry Christmas tree.
- Variety of Colors and Styles: LED lights are available in a wide range of colors and styles, including dimmable, twinkling, or color-changing options, offering more flexibility in design. This is so fun!
- Environmentally Friendly: Because they use less energy and last longer, LED Christmas lights reduce the overall environmental impact, making them a greener option for holiday decorations.
Pre-strung with lights, King of Christmas pre-lit trees offer hassle-free setup and a warm, inviting glow. Not having to wind them onto to the tree in perfect, even coverage is such a relief. King of Christmas offers two options when it comes to pre-lit trees: Warm White or Warm White & Multi-Color. I have been a multi-color lights girl all my life. However, I have to say I love having the dual options. Now, I can go with classy white when I am in that mood or cheerful color when I am in that mood. I love having two looks and/or using the lights remote control to select color-changing options!
