Back in 2011, the series Smallville ended its 11 season run, and fans finally got to see its star Tom Welling suit up as the official man of steel after years of strictly telling Clark Kent’s story.
The final shot in the series finale saw Clark tear open his shirt to reveal the iconic crest, and fans were thrilled with the long-awaited scene.
The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover featured Welling reprising the role of a powerless Superman, meaning the actor didn’t get an opportunity to suit up then. And since, both Welling and Lex Luthor actor Michael Rosenbaum have expressed that they are eager to continue Smallville‘s story with an animated revival. But that wouldn’t see Welling step back into the suit and cape either.
While Welling hasn’t seemed to be too eager to make it happen in the past, he does have one reason he would like to suit up once more.
The actor recently sat down with ComicBookMovie to talk about his upcoming role in the film Mafia Wars, and he was asked if he’s changed his stance on wearing Superman’s suit should the opportunity present itself.
He responded, saying: “You know, I think now because of the two boys that I have with my lovely wife…we have a bunch of costumes at home.
“It started out at the first Halloween and now we have, I don’t know, 40 or 50 costumes. The one costume we don’t have is the Superman costume. I asked my son why and he said, ‘Because he’s taken’ and I said, ‘By who?’ ‘By [you].’
“That was like, ‘Alright, I think I’m open to the idea now.’ So, if you know anybody, I think it would be great. I think it would be fun to be part of.”
I don’t know if there will be another opportunity for this to happen, but I think it’s very cool and sweet of him to want to make it happen for his kids. For their sake, he should at least throw it on this Halloween!
What do you think? Would you like to see Tom Welling return to the role of Superman?
