Stevie Nicks has unveiled a brand new song called “The Lighthouse.” Watch the music video for the politically-charged track below.
Written in the months following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, “The Lighthouse” finds the accomplished singer calling for resistance, action, and the reinstatement of rights. Her rallying cries are backed by dramatic, folk-tinged pop verses that give way to an explosion of guitars in the chorus. “The Lighthouse” features Sheryl Crow on guitar, bass, and backing vocals, with production by Crow and Dave Cobb.
“It seemed like overnight, people were saying, ‘what can we, as a collective force, do about this…’ For me, it was to write a song,” Nicks explained in a statement. “It took a while because I was on the road. Then early one morning I was watching the news on TV and a certain newscaster said something that felt like she was talking to me — explaining what the loss of Roe v. Wade would come to mean. I wrote the song the next morning and recorded it that night.”
“I have often said to myself, ‘This may be the most important thing I ever do.’ To stand up for the women of the United States and their daughters and granddaughters — and the men that love them,” she continued. “This is an anthem.”
The song comes accompanied by a music video that’s just as pointed as the lyrics. Between shots of Nicks, there’s footage of rallies, picketing, and a crowd of women coming together. Watch the full music video for “The Lighthouse” below.
