The Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, have paid tribute to their former coach Stephen Okechukwu Keshi on the eighth anniversary of his death.

Keshi, who passed away from a heart attack on June 8, 2016, at age 54, remains a revered figure in Nigerian football history.

The wife passed away in December 2015, just months before his own tragic death.

His coaching legacy includes leading the Super Eagles to their third African Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in South Africa, 2013.

He is celebrated for his unique achievement of winning the AFCON both as a player and a coach.

“Forever in our hearts, Coachie. Keep resting on Eagle 🦅 Stephen Okechukwu Keshi (23 January 1962 – 8 June 2016),” the Super Eagles wrote on social media.

Fans and football enthusiasts across Nigeria have also taken to social media to commemorate Keshi, sharing heartfelt messages and celebrating his legacy.
