Tenacious D’s Kyle Gass has removed an Instagram post apologizing for a joke he made about Donald Trump’s attempted assassination.
The apology was posted in the immediate aftermath of Tenacious D’s concert in Sydney, Australia last weekend, where Gass was asked to make a wish for his birthday and responded, “Don’t miss Trump next time.”
“The line I improvised onstage Sunday night was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake. I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone,” Gass wrote in his apology. “What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused.”
However, just three days later, Gass has now removed the apology post from his Instagram page.
Gass’ Tenacious D bandmate, Jack Black, says he was “blindsided” by the joke, and has decided to cancel the band’s remaining tour dates and put “all future creative plans are on hold.”
In addition to taking down his apology, Gass apparently liked a post from a Tenacious D fan account encouraging fans to sign a petition to “bring back the D.”
