Lucasfilm’s Star Wars series The Acolyte has been canceled by Disney and there are no plans to continue the story. I’ve gotta say, I’m not really surprised. The writing on that series was not good and I found the story and character incredibly uninteresting.

The decision to cancel the series comes more than a month after the eight-episode first season of the series finished its run on Disney+. The series came from creator, director, executive producer, and showrunner Lesley Headland, who hoped to continue the story.

While The Acolyte was a hit with some critics, with 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, it divided Star Wars fans, which was reflected in its overall viewership. A lot of Star Wars fans trashed the series and things got really ugly there for a bit.

Regardless, the fans of the series did try to push for a Season 2 with #RenewTheAcolyte, which trended on X for a bit. But, the support wasn’t strong enough to make Disney want to do it.

While the series started off incredibly strong with 4.8M views in its first day on the streamer to rank as the biggest series premiere on Disney+ this year. After five days, that rose to 11.1 million views.

But, the series had a steady fall, and The Acolyte could not sustain the momentum. The season finale one clocked in 335M minutes in viewing, making it the lowest for a Star Wars series finale.

In the end, Disney felt that it wasn’t worth renewing the big-budget Star Wars series, which cost well above $100 million per season to make.
