Just because The Boys is going to come to an end with Season 5 doesn’t mean the franchise won’t continue. Series creator and showrunner Eric Kripke has confirmed that the franchise will continue and grow with Gen V and other spinoffs.
When talking about the future of The Boys franchise, Kripke explained: “I think they can and should continue. The Boys story is about Butcher and Homelander and these two planets crashing into each other and this particular story doesn’t work without both of them. And you can only keep that going for so long.”
He continued: “So what I would say is, this particular story is ending, the Butcher-Homelander is ending. But there can be other stories and other corners of the universe. And hopefully, it’s vibrant and perverted enough to allow for those stories.
“So hopefully, Gen V continues, hopefully, a couple other things we have in development continue.”
Gen V is proof that, if done right, these spinoffs could be great shows! The other spinoff series currently in development is The Boys: Mexico but even that show is still a long way from going into production.
Kripke talked about the spinoff shows saying that one of the main things they need to see is if the show is strong enough to stand on its own as if the main series didn’t exist.
He said: “I really don’t want people to feel they have to watch one [show] to understand the other. I never want it to feel like homework or mandatory viewing. I think that’s hurt Marvel in a certain amount of ways, and I don’t want to do that.”
There are so many directions that this franchise could go and it will be interesting to see what other stories and characters it will explore.
What are some ides that you have for spinoff projects for The Boys?
