It’s been 30 years since Alex Proyas’ dark superhero film, The Crow, first arrived. To mark the occasion, the film is coming back to theaters for two nights only.
The theatrical re-release arrives as part of the “Scream Greats Series” by Paramount Scares and Fangoria. Specifically, The Crow will be shown at participating Cinemark locations on May 29th and 30th. Tickets and local listings can be found on Cinemark’s website.
Along with the original Brendan Lee-starring film, the upcoming re-release will also show audiences bonus content, including production designer Alex McDowell revisiting the 1994 film to discuss its design.
All of this, of course, comes as a new remake of the film by director Rupert Sanders is approaching. Starring Bill Skarsgård and FKA twigs, the new version is due in theaters on August 23rd via Lionsgate.
However, original director Proyas has spoken out against the Sanders remake, suggesting that it dishonors the memory of Brendan Lee, who tragically died after he was accidentally shot by a prop gun on set. In a since-deleted Facebook post, Proyas wrote that the film “is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy. That’s how it should remain.”
The plot of The Crow follows goth rocker Eric Draven, who is murdered with his fiancé on Devil’s Night in Detroit. Seeking revenge, Draven’s spirit is resurrected to set things right. Check out the original trailer below.
