Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, former First Lady of Ondo State, has vehemently condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC) Primary Election held on April 21, 2024.

In a press release, Akeredolu accused the APC of conducting a “fraudulent” and “kangaroo” primary election. She claimed that “professional election riggers” had manipulated the process, undermining the legacy of her late husband, Governor Oluwaferanmi Akeredolu.

“What happened yesterday was unprecedented and terrible,” she said. “It was like Aketi’s adversaries have succeeded in urinating on his grave with relish.”

Akeredolu expressed concern that the election results would have serious implications for Nigeria’s leadership. “Without credible elections, Nigeria will continue to suffer from poor leadership,” she said. “Those who seize power through fraudulent means lack the character, integrity, and capabilities to lead effectively.”

She praised her husband’s efforts to promote free and fair elections in Ondo State during his governorship tenure. “Throughout Aketi’s time, elections were relatively free and fair,” she said. “There was no thuggery, and voters were able to cast their ballots in peace.”

Akeredolu lamented that the positive changes brought about by her husband’s administration had been reversed.

“Thuggery is back in Ondo State politics with vengeance,” she said. “It is heartbreaking that the positive changes in the conduct of elections that Aketi nurtured for seven years have been thrown to the dogs.”

Akeredolu concluded by expressing her disappointment with the current state of Nigeria, calling it a “ZOO” where justice and fairness are disregarded. CONTINUE READING
