Tom Brady “Wouldn’t Do” Netflix Roast Again: “It Affected My Kids”

Earlier this month, Tom Brady sat in the hot seat for a roast at the Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival. Now, the legendary quarterback has revealed that the event “affected [his] kids,” and that he “wouldn’t do that again.”

Brady’s revelation came in an appearance on The Pivot Podcast, where he was asked what his biggest take-away from the experience was. “I loved when the jokes were about me, I thought they were so fun,” he replied. “[But] I didn’t like the way it affected my kids… [There’s a] bittersweet aspect of when you do something that you think is one way and then all of a sudden you realize: ‘I wouldn’t do that again, because of the way it affected the actual people who I care about most in the world.’”

Brady explained that he was initially open to the idea because he was such a big fan of comedy shows and the roast comedian Jeff Ross. But, in his own words, “you don’t see the full picture all the time.”

Now, Brady is vowing to “be a better parent as I go forward” because of the experience. “Sometimes you’re naive and you don’t know, or you get a little like, ‘Ah, shit,’” he said. “So, I think it’s a good lesson for me as a parent.”

Beyond Brady and Ross, many A-list comedians, athletes, and celebrities were present at the roast, aptly dubbed The Greatest Roast of All Time, including Kevin Hart, Nikki Glaser, Tom Segura, Tony Hinchcliffe, Rob Gronkowski, Drew Bledsoe, and many more.

And, as is usual with roasts, Brady wasn’t the only one who got some shade thrown his way — in fact, the booing Kim Kardashian received when she took the stand was evidently enough that Netflix edited it out of the version of the roast that’s currently streaming.

Nevertheless, Brady did end his comments with a reminder that it’s important to see the bright side where you can. “I’m happy everyone who was there had a lot of fun,” he said. “If we’re not laughing about things, we’re crying. We should have more fun.”
