Water From Your Eyes have announced a new four-song covers EP. MP3 Player 1 arrives this Friday, July 12, via Matador. Rachel Brown and Nate Amos cut versions of tracks by Adele, Al Green, Third Eye Blind, and Chumbawamba for the new record. Today, they’ve shared their take on Chumbawamba’s 1997 song “The Good Ship Lifestyle.” Check that out below.

Brown and Amos recorded MP3 Player 1 around the same time they tracked their 2023 Matador debut, Everyone’s Crushed. The EP follows in the footsteps of their 2021 covers LP, Somebody Else’s Songs. Discussing the new record in press materials, Water From Your Eyes wrote:

These are covers that we made at the same time as we were finishing Everyone’s Crushed. Nate chose “Good Ship Lifestyle” and Rachel chose the other three. Chumbawamba is an obvious favorite of ours, but it is between Adele in the style of the Cure and Al Green as the most left field covers we could have chosen. We think it’s funny and good, but ultimately that will be left to the listeners to decide for themselves.

Water From Your Eyes are playing this year’s edition of Pitchfork Music Festival on Saturday, July 20. Tickets are still available here. Their live band currently features guitarist Al Nardo and drummer Bailey Wollowitz.
