The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has named former Super Eagles winger Finidi George as the head coach of the national senior men’s team. The appointment was announced in a statement on Monday, April 29.

George’s appointment stems from his impressive record with the Super Eagles and his contributions to Nigerian football. The NFF board approved the recommendation of its technical and development committee, which recognized George’s suitability for the role.

The 52-year-old served as an assistant coach to Jose Peseiro, the former Super Eagles coach, for 20 months. Since Peseiro’s departure, George has held the position of interim coach.

During his time as interim coach, George led the Super Eagles to two friendly matches in Morocco in March. The team secured a historic 2-1 victory over Ghana, ending an 18-year winless streak against their West African rivals. However, they suffered a 2-0 loss to Mali.

George’s popularity among Nigerian football fans has grown steadily over the years. His appointment as head coach of Enyimba International Football Club in September 2021 further cemented his reputation. He successfully guided the team to victory in the Nigeria Premier League last season, sparking renewed interest in his coaching abilities. CONTINUE READING
