Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 governorship candidate for the Labour Party in Lagos State, has alleged excessive spending on helicopter services by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

According to Rhodes-Vivour, Sanwo-Olu spent the following amounts on helicopter charter services:

* April 2022: ₦1,039,875,000
* July and August 2023: ₦512,000,000

Rhodes-Vivour questioned the allocation of nearly ₦2 billion in three months for governor’s helicopter travel, while some areas in the state lack access to clean water. He argued that the funds could have been invested in essential services such as education.

The LP candidate proposed using drones for project supervision instead of helicopters, citing potential cost savings. He claimed that ₦1.2 billion could pay 1,000 teachers ₦100,000 monthly for a year.

Rhodes-Vivour also pledged that a government led by him would:

* Discontinue the use of official funds for private jet travel.
* Prioritize human capital development and invest in public education. CONTINUE READING
